Podcast 1: Waterford Institute of Technology Music Week 2012

New Music Week 2012 is running from Monday 16th to Friday 20th April. Annual festival co-promoted by Waterford Institute of Technology's Department of Creative & Performing Arts, celebrating and promoting contemporary music. 


Now in its 14th year it is the only festival of its kind in the south east. The festival has provided a platform for contemporary work - classical, jazz, traditional and world music.

The festival celebrates music composition & performance and this year the five- day programme of events will explore the theme of improvisation. All daytime events are free and take place right across the city; from the Cork Road & College Street campuses of WIT, to Garter Lane Theatre.

Highlights include the first ever Irish New Music Big Band ensemble performing new work by Irish composers. The National Chamber Choir will present an evening of contemporary song. Jazz bass player Barry Guy, and baroque violinist Maya Homburger, will provide a workshop and concert exploring baroque works. Workshop places are free of charge but numbers are limited, so book your place through the Garter Lane website

Daily free lunch time recitals will showcase the work of WIT students of composition and performance.
